Issue 11 Live Nov. 28th – That's tomorrow!

Expect to see a flood of new tankers and scrappers in the Atlas Sewers tomorrow night 🙂

We are pleased to announce that Issue 11: A Stitch In Time will be made available on the Live City of Heroes servers on Wednesday, November 28th. All servers will be coming down for extended maintenance starting at 7 AM Eastern (4 AM Pacific) and we estimate they will be back up by 1 PM Eastern (10 AM Pacific).

* Free Costume Token

Given the debut of Weapon Customization in Issue 11, a free costume token will be granted to all characters on Wednesday, November 28th with the launch of the Issue.

* Free Respec

Additionally, with the many changes to powers included in Issue 11, we will be making a Free Respec available to all characters on Friday, December 7th. Read the full announcement of that here.

Something to keep in mind is that if you already have a free respec token from a previous Issue release they do NOT stack. So, you’ll want to burn it off before they are issued on December 7th and then get the new tokens. To be clear, this only applies to tokens that were given from previous Issue launches (i10, i9, i8, etc.) not Veteran rewards or respecs earned in missions – they stack.

A quick recap of changes with i11:

The Ouroboros System which allows you to travel back in time to re-run your past missions (or story arcs you might have missed), a chance to reclaim an echo of a previous temp power, or run entirely new missions where you fight alongside (or against) the signature Heroes/Villains in the mythos.

Two new powersets:  Dual blades and Willpower available to all melee types (Tankers, Scrappers, Brutes, Stalkers) and weapon customization which allows you to change the style and color of your weapons.

New ultra-rare, high level Invention Sets that will give epic bonuses and effects to end game toons.

Among many other smaller enhancements and under the covers tweakage.

Episode 4.5 – Completion of the Powers Discussion

Kind of the opposite from the last two episodes – this one is very, very short. Actually we’re calling it Episode 4.5 as it completes the main topic “Powers” from last episode.

There wasn’t any significant news this week either, which added to the shortness (wait, is that an oxymoron?)

Episode 4 – Powers

Another long episode this week. I actually pulled some content out so that we didn’t go past the hour mark. I will either release them into a short addendum episode this weekend, or make them the main topic next week.

Episode 3 – The Chat System

We have a whopper of an episode this week. Since its a couple of days late, hopefully all of the great news discussion, terminology, and chat system info will make up for that. This episode is almost an hour long. We will try to keep future episodes shorter, but there is a lot of great information packed in here.

  • NCSoft buys CoH IP from Cryptic (along with most developers)
  • Bonuses to all players as a thank you
  • NCSoft opens 19 new positions for their Northern California CoH operations

Slight Delay

Sorry, but there will be a slight delay in releasing the next episode.. But I should have it out by Saturday. I’ll be joined by a special guest (my wife) who is an avid CoH gamer, and we’ll talk a little about the latest CoH news, and then go in depth about the chat system.

Episode 2 – Teaming Strategies

The main topic this episode is teaming strategies. Specifically, what the roles on a team are, and the typical way that these roles are used to most effectively take down the bad guys.

Only two news clips this episode. First, Floyd “Castle” Grubb, the City of Heroes Development Team powers designer, narrates this trailer spotlighting the all-new power sets introduced in Issue 11: “A Stitch in Time.” The video also briefly touches on Issue 11’s new Weapon Customization feature.

Second is information on the Wonder Woman movie being placed on “indefinite hold”.

I play a promo in this episode for the new free podcast novel “Playing For Keeps“. This is a modern day story of super heroes; super villains; and third wave almost-heroes who are stuck in between. The story is written by the ‘grand dame of podcasting’ Mur Lafferty.

Mur currently hosts two podcasts: I Should Be Writing, for aspiring fiction writers, and Geek Fu Action Grip. This is her first novel; though she has been frequently published in role playing games, video games, and short story forms.

I highly encourage you to give it a listen. Mur is a masterful storyteller. And hey, if you subscribe to the “Playing For Keeps Experience” feed, there is a PDF version of each chapter with a picture of a pie on the cover! Pie I say!
